Armor Inspired Complex – A Friday “Fun” isher

This finisher is inspired by the famous Dan John “armor builder” complex. Dan is one of the most well respected coaches in the business and the armor builder, a simple complex of cleans, presses, and squats with a double set of bells, represents his philosophy that complicated is not always better. I once did 25 minutes of the armor builder in one workout and it was TOUGH!

Dan would probably cringe because I decided to change the rep scheme a tad and added in some pushups on the kettlebells. This got tough for me as I had to switch to push presses and broke the cardinal rule of not breaking up the complex during my last set. It was a lesson on proper weight selection to match the purpose of the finisher, which is intended to be more metabolic conditioning than strength work.

Here’s the set up:

5:00 AMRAP of double KB complex:
A) Clean x1
B) Press/Push press x2
C) FSQ x4
D) Pushups on KB x8

Here’s the ugly video:

Choose a more sensible weight, probably one you press 10x, and try it out. As always, let me know if you try it out. Hopefully it goes better for you than it did for me!
